My Sporting Weekend – Murray a winner again

Beware the injured sportsman is an old adage but it has a ring of truth about it… and never more so than when applied to Andy Murray.

I’m glad to see Scotland’s greatest-ever tennis player is back on the winner’s podium after he lifted the Mutua Madrid Open Virtual.

And just as happy to see that he didn’t strain that back of his.

The consummate competitor that he is Andy was giving out in the semi-finals.

After his opponent Diego Schwartzman amassed a number of points unjustly. https://twitter.com/BellshawGeorge/status/1255871980823347211

Smash and grab

After technical problems robbed the three-time Grand Slam champion of his reward in a tiebreak he was heard to say: ”b******t.’

Murray had a point (or not) as his forehand winner was given to the Argentine.

Of course normal service (ouch) was resumed when the march was awarded to the Scot.

The final was more straightforward with the Dunblane man triumphing over Belgian Goffin 7-6 (7-5).

Charity is the winner

All of which good news for Andy and the charities, which shared €50,000, reminds us of just how much we miss tennis.

Virtual tennis, as well as matches on TV, of course, deludes us mere mortals into thinking that it’s easy to play like Andy.

Which I know to my cost I can’t after visiting The Campus in Quinta do Lago https://www.quintadolago.com/en/sports-wellness/the-campus/.

Now for the tennis

Judy’s a dancer

And putting his Mum Judy through the ringer as she tried to coach us… https://www.google.ie/amp/s/jimmurtytraveltraveltravel.com/2019/06/12/sportugal/amp/.

She discovered of course that I have two left feet.

And she should know as a Strictly Come Dancing legend.

For now I will practise the tennis drills she showed me, against the garage wall.

And the dance steps on the lounge floor.

Get me out on the court

While I can also have time on my hands and a computer to hone up on my virtual tennis skills.

Never mind at home with the Murtys, it’s at home with the Murrays.

MEET YOU ON THE COURT
