Our leaders have made it the burning question of our day so let’s apply it to our sector… HolidAIs and Don’ts and what AI means for tourism.
The World Travel &Tourism Council embraced the new technology earlier this year.
When it said: ‘AI has the power to revolutionise how businesses in the Travel & Tourism sector operate.
‘Offering immense opportunities for growth and innovation.’
Before warning… ‘challenges such as AI-skilled workforce shortages in the Travel & Tourism sector persist.
‘Highlighting the importance of proactive measures to overcome barriers to adoption.’
The pace of which came home to me at our recent American Travel Fair in Los Angeles.
When a fellow travel professional informed me that they use AI to compile data for listicles.
AI challenges
Raising the very question of whether the very thing that helps us harms us.
Aby Joseph raises that very point in his article published in PublishFive.
The automation of tasks through AI, such as chatbots.
Handling customer inquiries or self-check-in kiosks at airports which raises concerns about job displacement in the travel sector.
While technological dependence risk travel disruptions caused by AI system failures or cyberattacks.
And that that could have far-reaching consequences, leading to flight delays and booking errors.
Now all of this comes back to our basic human need for human intelligence rather than the artificial type.
There are six basic types of AI (who knew?, well our friends at Travel Weekly, that’s who).
But our takeaway from all of this is that we’re best to leave it all in the hands of our travel agents and so we’ll let our Irish team take over here with these American specials.

And what it means is that we should leave it all to our travel agents, our dream makers… they never let us down.
