Today’s the day

The first day of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863…

That spawned The Gettysburg Address.

An excerpt of which is:

We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this’

Edward Everett was considered a more polished orator of the day… but admitted that Abe had said what he had previously but that bit more succinctly. He had used 5,500!
