Wizard museums of Oz

We’re not in Kansas any more as spin-off phenom Wicked hits our screens worldwide this month but you can channel the wonderful land across America.

But which yellow brick road to take for the most Ozsome experience?

Now seeing there’s no place like home then Kansas is the best place to start our search for Dorothy and Toto.

No place like Kansas

World of Oz: And they’re all there

In Oz Museum in Wamego in Kansas, the mid-western Sunflower State that inspired New Yorker L. Frank Baum to pen his opus.

It is our good fortune that Wamego native Tod Machin was inspired in his turn to collect Ozrabilia himself.

So the Oz Museum could showcase up to 2,000 artefacts of Dorothy and her friends.

Boasting four galleries, eight alcoves, and 20 display cabinets, all bursting with Oz artefacts and all for just $10.

Stormer: The movie

From the moment you swing through the heavy doors and enter the Gale family barn you are transported into Baum’s world.

And the Gales’ porch and a life-size Dorothy and Toto and the Technicolor world of Oz.

While you can wonder too at the dress worn by Diana Ross in The Wiz.

And leave with a goody bag of Emerald City Ale, Tin Man Organic Juice, Oz Peanut Butter, and Wizard of Oz Shampoo.

Or Florida

Green for go: The Wizard of Oz museum

If there’s no place like home, and there’s not, then there’s none like Florida either.

When it comes to bring our fantasy faves to life.

And the Sunshine State is rightly proud of its Wizard of Oz museum in Cape Canaveral ($29,99).

Now Florida’s version boasts its artefacts too see.

Ruby, ruby, ruby, ruby: The slippers

With original props from the movie, such as Dorothy’s dress, the Winkie Guard Spear.

Ruby Slippers from Disney’s Great Movie Ride, and an Emerald City Townsman jacket.

Truly wicked, and with a nod to our much-anticipated witchfest and the Michael Jackson and Diana Ross romp too.

It’s Wicked what’s out there

Witch Oz museum? You’re spoiled for choice

And because because because because of the wonderful things it does we’re flagging up the other Oz-some attractions

Dorothy’s House and Coronado Museum in Liberal, Kansas: Billed as an immersive Wizard of Oz Tour that combines a colorful recreation of the film with stories of actual life on a 1900s farmhouse.

Land of Oz Museum in Wausaukee, Wisconsin: And this palace of nine themed rooms has the added attraction of a special area dedicated to Wicked.

All Things Oz Museum in Chittenango, New York: So for all things L. Frank Baum, then there’s no place like the hometown of our author.

Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota: Or Judy. And learn the story of the Ruby Slippers, how they were stolen and how Tim Waltz is championing their place in the Minnesota story.

Land of Oz theme park, Beach Mountain, North Carolina. And because twisters are at the heart of the Wizard of Oz story then it’s all set up for a theme park, and this is the set to visit.
