Every summer “Goonies” fans flock to the Goonies Day in Astoria celebration.

Which is actually four days of scavenging hunts and games at Chunk’s Bowling Alley.

Travel Oregon will mark the 40th anniversary of The Goonies with statewide celebrations.

With a special 40th birthday bash Goonies Weekend (5-8 June) in Astoria.

With film screenings, treasure hunts (obvs), costume contests, immersive experience and special challenges.

Of course, movie tourists will head straight for the locations.

The house used in the film from the East End Mooring Basin near the Astoria Riverwalk Trail (John Jacob Astor Elementary School).

Fans will recognise Astoria’s old Clatsop County Jail from the opening jailbreak scene, now home to the Oregon Film Museum.

Other must-see locations include the 125ft Astoria Column which you’ll have seen.

In The Goonies, Kindergarten Cop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III and Free Willy.

Visitors can climb the 164 steps of the spiral staircase to a viewing deck 600ft above sea level for a panoramic view of the lower Columbia area.

The 4.1-mile-long Astoria Bridge is another defining shot for Astoria movies.

Connecting Oregon to Washington across the mouth of the Columbia River, pedestrians are allowed on the bridge one day per year.
