The best Coronation Street Party

My neighbour Royalist Roy needs little excuse to get the bunting out and no doubt he’ll do the hood proud next month… but for the best Coronation Street Party it has to be the Rovers Return.

Where there’s a celebration all year round which is probably as long as the hoopla.

Before and after Charles’s holy anointing will last.

Of course there will be monarchists coming from around the world to stand behind the steel gates.

To wave their little flags at the gold carriage.

And hope for a glimpse of Chuck and Cam.

To be fair they’ll all be raising their Ridley and Newtons to King Charles oop in Weatherfield, Manchester.

With what they’ll tell you is the best Coronation Street Party.

After all Britain’s favourite soap is steeped in royal lore.

As it was in celebration of the relatively new queen that the writers billed their new drama Coronation Street in 1960.

Soap opera

Annnie, get your pump: Corrie original Annie Walker

The rest, of course, is history and that history is at your fingertips on a two-night Soaps tour for €379pp.

Now, if you live in Manchester or t’north of England then it’s just a day out.

But for those further afield, including the Irish Corrie Army then it’s a pilgrimage.

Celtic Horizon Tours are used to indulging Irish appetite for the English soaps.

And they have a package to the famous cobbles as well as shopping (well, it is for an Irish market) at the Cheshire Oaks.

And a location tour of Emmerdale (ideal for those who say Real Ireland is Rural Ireland beyond the Pale).

And this is the real Dale

Pack a punch: At the Woolpack

For those who prefer the Yorkshire Dales to the Lancashire cobbles (you are allowed to like both) Emmerdale spans the generations.

You’ll get to see the original locations dotted around West Yorkshire.

As well as a few sites featured in modern Emmerdale.

You will visit the market towns of Otley.

And the village of Esholt in West Yorkshire – ‘Hotton’ as well as ‘Emmerdale Village’.

Where, of course, you can have a drink at the inn once used as the Woolpack.
