Catalonia’s dragons lair

I know from experience how fiery-hot it is there so it’s not surprising to hear Catalonia’s dragons lair was used as a setting for the Game of Thrones prequel.

Of course there was much excitement here with the Mother of All Dragons.

Or the wife as I call her, when the GoT spin-off House of the Dragon ran.

White hot: House of the Dragon

It’s probably been missed by most of us, even those who love rambling along Las Ramblas.

But Catalonia makes a lot of St Jordi and its dragons.

But keep your eyes open, or listen to your Barcelona guide.

Dragon fire: Must be en route to Catalonia

And you’ll discover that Barcelona has more dragons per square metre than any other city anywhere.

Ours when we popped into a cafe on the hottest day of the year in a particular southern European heatwave was at boiling point.

Although I’m happy to say that I managed to get a smile out of said owner when I ordered a hot chocolate.

Back to our dragons and Catalonia which takes the dragon theme a step further by giving their rugby league team, who play out of Perpignan, that title, has extended that link further.

In lock step: In the Santa Clotilde Gardens

On since July and over August, visitors to the Santa Clotilde Gardens in Lloret de Mar will find a sign.

At the entrance informing them that they are entering “Gardens of the Dragon”.

This is the first approach to the themed visit commissioned by Lloret Town Council from the Lloret cultural projects company Amargura Cultura.

Say your prayers: La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona

The Director of Cultural Heritage, Anna Fuentes, explained: We have created a guided tour in which we take advantage of the common thread of this internationally renowned series with millions of followers to show the attraction of the Santa Clotilde Gardens.

“And we are convinced that there will be no doubt as to why they were one of the chosen locations”.

Time for a rest: On your tour

The Santa Clotilde Gardens are one of the most fascinating settings of the series House of the Dragon.

It is, of course, centred on the Targaryen house and based on novel Fire & Blood.

Accompanied by specialised guides, attendees will walk through the most important corners of the Gardens.

Flagging yet: And keep the water in sight

And you’ll discover all kinds of objects and settings easily identifiable in the series.

Today these nineteenth century inspiration gardens are members of the European Route of Historic Gardens.

Listed as a European Cultural Itinerary by the Council of Europe it welcomes more than 100,000 visitors annually.

All of whom will confirm when it comes to fiery fun Catalonia’s dragons lair is the place to go.

Ryanair have one-way flights to Barcelona from £18… and you can fly back on your dragon.
