Day trip in Philly

Where’s a guide when you need one, like when you’re on a day trip in Philly?

You’ve got five hours (it would have been six but the bus driver got held up and had an expectant tourist in his ear at the start of the journey).

And you have to take in the Liberty Bell, Liberty Place and Independence Hall.

Before you head back to Washington DC (the third US capital for the record).

Of course if you do your planning (no, seriously) then you can let a tour guide take the strain.

And despite long-since majoring in American history, said guide would be bound to know more about the City of Brotherly Love than yours truly.

Tour de force

WeVenture offers walking tours guided by local residents that focus on different themes, including history, art and food sustainability.

SeePhillyRun offers sightseeing tours for those looking to keep active.

And the tours include Philadelphia Highlights where you can run all of Philadelphia’s main attractions

While tapping into themes like liberty, inclusion, reinvention, pop culture and many American Firsts.

On the Rocky Run you run through Old City, the Italian Market, South Philly and up the Art Museum Steps.

And you’ll hear unique Philly stories about Rocky and what it means to be an underdog.

Stay the night

Now you’ll not want to make my mistake and have to get back somewhere.

And among the branded hotels out there Kimpton and Sofitel have always looked after me.

From as far afield as New York to Biarritz.

Kimpton Hotel Palomar Philadelphia is the city’s only hotel certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) which is a globally recognised symbol of sustainability achievement.

Hotel Sofitel Philadelphia is working with Planet 21 in order to form a commitment to the planet.

In order to help with environmental efforts, the hotel has implemented actions in regard to health, nature, carbon, innovation, and local purchases.

Now this being a city which cherishes its activities and sports and apres-activities then you’ll want to check out the restaurant and pub scene.

And have a drink on us

Olde World: Triple Bottom Brewing

Our Philly friends are on point as a leading city in farm to fork food.

And one of the foremost exponents is White Dog Café, which uses environmentally sustainable, organic and local foods sourced from farms within 50 miles.

And Philadelphia’s original craft brewery, Yards Brewing Company, has the proud claim of being the first brewery in Pennsylvania to be 100% wind-powered.

While it also features solar panels placed on the roof of their 70,000-square-foot brewery and taproom.

And you’ll need to check out Triple Bottom Brewing Company (OK the big kid in me finds that amusing).

Of course there is plenty of gas in the old-fashioned pubs too.

When even on the shortest of liquid lunches you can find out all about the politics of the city.

And how those Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Racers are going.

And how’s that for a Day Trip in Philly?
